New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) presented a donation of $3,000 and 140 backpacks to the Albion Central School District at the Board of Education meeting Monday night.
Board member Trellis Pore introduced Chief Sector Steward Dean Thomas and two other union stewards. Thomas explained that the donation was for the current kindergarten class, and would be the first step in a partnership with the class from now until graduation. This donation marks the first step in NYSCOPBA’s support, and the organization offered to aid the school in future financing and events.
Thomas expressed that this was long overdue and that he hopes this relationship will show how officers are also community members.
NYSCOPBA represents more than 26,000 New York State employees and retirees of the Security Services Unit. Its chapters support many different initiatives across the state.
