Dear Purple Eagle Families,
We have heard your frustrations and would like to address your concerns by clarifying the process we go through when dealing with a threat toward the District.
When the District is notified of a threat, it is treated seriously and immediate action is taken. All threats are investigated fully, by both school administrators and local law enforcement, and measures are taken to ensure students are safe while on campus.
When the District notified you regarding the incident on 9/29/2024, a Sunday with students neither in school nor on campus, the incident had been investigated and the student had been notified of disciplinary actions by both the district and Orleans County Sheriff's Office. There was no threat to the District then and there is no threat to the district today.
ACS does not condone any behavior that endangers the safety, morals, health or welfare of others and the perpetrator is dealt with in accordance with the District’s Code of Conduct.
Federal Law protects the confidentiality of student records, including any reference to a specific student's disciplinary action. However, students found to have violated the District’s Code of Conduct may be subject to the following penalties: short or long-term suspension or expulsion from school, after-school detention, and exclusion from participation in extracurricular activities. In all cases, the District seeks to have the punishment fit the offense. The District also considers individual circumstances in assessing a penalty. These include the student’s age, the nature of the offense and circumstances, the student’s prior disciplinary record, and the effectiveness of other forms of discipline.
As always: if you see something, say something. We are grateful for your passion and dedication to keeping our District a safe place to work and learn.
Sincerely,
Mickey Edwards, Superintendent of Schools
