The Albion Central School District (ACS) is asking drivers to take extra care and remember there will be students walking to and from school, crossing streets, and buses frequently stopping when school begins Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024.

Albion Police Chief David Mogle wants to remind drivers to be especially vigilant this week.

“Just be alert,” Mogle said. “There will be kids crossing back and forth from school and they don’t always use the crosswalk.”

An officer from the Albion Police Department (APD) will be filling in at the crosswalk located at the intersection of Route 31 and McKinstry Street to ensure everyone’s safety as the Village of Albion eliminated the crossing guard position from its budget this past spring.

It is already a busy road and, with a new traffic pattern being implemented at the Middle School this fall, Superintendent of Schools Mickey Edwards cautions drivers to be aware of their surroundings.

“It can be easy to be distracted, especially if you’re in a rush,” Edwards said. “But please take an extra second and check your surroundings.”

The District would like to thank the APD and the greater Albion community for helping to ensure the safety of our students as they head back to school this fall.
