Strollo and Koppenhaver

Albion Physical Education teachers Vinny Strollo and Sara Koppenhaver volunteered at Camp Abilities Brockport from June 29 - July 6, 2024.

Camp Abilities is an educational sports camp for youth with visual impairments and just held its 29th year at SUNY Brockport. Strollo served as a 1:1 coach for an athlete while Koppenhaver served as the Counselor in Training (CIT) Mentor Coordinator. This was the eleventh summer Koppenhaver has been a part of Camp Abilities Brockport. Previously, she has worked as a coach, group leader, and sport specialist over the years.

Awards were given out as part of the closing ceremonies and Strollo was recognized with the Lou Lieberman Award while Koppenhaver received the Jim Burch Above & Beyond Award. The Lou Lieberman Award is named after founder Lauren Lieberman’s grandfather who helped her start camp. It recognizes a coach who is professional, selfless, shows integrity and works well with their athlete all week. The Above & Beyond Award is named after the father of a former camper and recognizes an individual or organization that goes above and beyond for the benefit of Camp Abilities.
