7th Grade students from Mr. Archer’s service learning class released their book on local legend Charles W. Howard during a presentation to the community at the Hoag Library on Friday afternoon.
The students each read an excerpt from the book about the life and work of the founder of the Santa Claus School and Christmas Park. Those students were Loralei Gailie, Nicholas Luft, Olivia Andrews, Ava Woolston, Brooke Doty, Maddison Button, Adam Burgio and Grace Nesbitt. Teacher Tim Archer presented a slideshow of photos of Howard, the park and the school. Howard’s grandchildren reminisced about their grandfather. Local Santa expert Ken McPherson spoke about his experiences with Howard and the school, and those in attendance who had a personal connection shared their stories.
Many items from the original Charles W. Howard Santa Claus School were on display and a limited quantity of books that the class produced were available for purchase. In all, the day was full of jolly memories, smart students, community coming together and holiday spirit - a perfect tribute to Howard and the man he portrayed so well.
