The Albion Village offices are now decorated for the season thanks to fourth grade members of the Student Leadership Council (SLC) and third through fifth grade art students.
Heberle Farms donated a large Christmas tree for the village office foyer and art teacher Mrs. Prince had her students working on creating ornaments during their classes. On Tuesday morning, the SLC members decorated the tree and an additional smaller tree with nearly 360 ornaments made by their fellow students.
Before the decorating began, the students were treated to hot cocoa and donuts from Mayor Anger Javier, Clerk Tracy Vanskiver and Deputy Clerk Jessy Holz, who talked about their jobs and answered questions about village operations. Marty Zwifka of the Albion DPW also met the students and assisted with placing ornaments on the top of the tall tree.
“I liked the tour and learning about how our town works,” said student Ry’Lee Mullins. She was surprised at how much tax revenue the village handles.
Once the decorating was complete, the Albion Police Department took the students on a tour of their facility and talked to the students about all aspects of law enforcement.
“I didn’t know that they had an underground area and that they can do fingerprints and check all that out on the computers,” said student Olivia Bruski when asked about something she learned. Both students also added that it was a fun experience.
The day was coordinated by SLC advisors Cathy Galbreth and Cathy Hryhorenko. Thanks to all the village officials who made the day both informative and enjoyable for the students.
