Members of Albion Central School District’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) woke up early to make their annual holiday donation to Community Action of Orleans & Genesee this past weekend.
On Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, students, staff, and community members gathered to sort, wrap and deliver 37,000 pounds of produce and food. Once everything was packed, the group headed to Community Action where Assemblyman Steve Hawley and Community Action staff helped sort and unload the produce.
In addition to helping their neighbors in need, President of the Albion FFA, Kaitlynn Basinait says this event provides students with the opportunity to hone their leadership skills.
“I’ve learned how to be a better leader through FFA,” Basinait said. “I’ve learned how to work well with my classmates and also other members of the community.”
“It’s important to help out our community,” Abigail Ferris, Vice President of the Albion FFA, agrees. “During the holiday season, some families don’t have enough money or food so we gather donations from our local farms in order to help out.”
The Albion FFA would like to thank the following for their generous support: Torrey Farms, Mighty Acres, Kludt Brothers, Poverty Hill Farm, Rush’s, Orchard Dale, Triple G Farm, Nesbitt’s Apples, Lynn-Ette and Sons, Root Brothers, Panek’s, Martin Farms, Kreher Family Farms, Stymus Farms, the Orleans County Farm Bureau, Circle R, Brightly’s, Lake Ontario Fruit, the Starowitz Brothers, and Haylett Farms.
