Musical Instrument Program
The elementary school is seeking out instruments in good working
order that are no longer used by their current owners. Many students
would like to learn how to play an instrument but some families
can not afford to rent or purchase an instrument for their children.
Donations of working instruments would enable more students to learn
how to play and be part of the musical program.
A research study by Arts Education Partnership showed arts instruction
and learning music skills can significantly strengthen a student's
academic performance. The report further suggested that for certain
populations - students who are economically disadvantaged and students
needing remedial instruction - the effects of learning in the arts
may be especially robust and able to boost learning and achievement.
(Arts Education Partnership, 2002).
If you would like to donate an instrument that is in good working
order, please contact the elementary school instrumental teacher,
Mr. Wayne Burlison, at 589-8368. Fourth and fifth grade students
who qualify for the free and reduced lunch program will be eligible
for the instrument donation program.
